It was a cold day on Tuesday, March 25, 1952, in Manhattan, NY. At 10:10 p.m. in Harlem Hospital, a baby girl was born to Marion and Jervine Blacks. Alice was the third of seven children.
Alice was a very active person. She traveled to several countries. She was a big sports fan. The New York Giants was her favorite team. Win lose or draw, she was a die hard fan. Alice loved the Lord. She was a faithful member of the Young Adult Choir and also the director of the Youth Choir for many years. Alice was a very dedicated to her gospel group “The Gospel Chime Lights”.
Alice grew- up in Passaic, NJ and was educated in the Passaic Public School System. She was a member of the William’s Chapel AME Zion Church since she was a child. Alice was a graduate of William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ. She graduated with a Bachelor of Art degree in Elementary Education. Alice never put her degree into the classroom. She decided to reach out to the community by working at the Passaic County Board of Social Services for thirty years. Alice was a people person. For several years she worked for the City of Passaic Senior Affairs. She loved working with the senior group. They taught her how to crochet and cook different types of foods. They made her smile. The love she shared with them each and every day made their day complete. She enjoyed working with the youth in Passaic and as a young girl, she played softball with the Original Joes Go Go Girls. After retiring in 2011 Alice moved to Snellville, GA
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; Marion and Jervine Blacks.
She leaves to cherish fond memories her only child, best friend, caregiver, road dog, apple of her eyes; who shared in their total source of unconditional love and joy, daughter; Tenesha (Darin) of Snellville, GA, four grandchildren; Justice, Skyler, Meah, Jeea, three great-grandchildren; Bryson, Brylan, and Noa of Atlanta, GA, six sisters; Mary Jenkins of Fultondale, AL, Rosann Carter (Jerry) of Poinciana, FL, Lorraine Kenner of Snellville, GA, Gloria Carter of Fayetteville, NC, Mae Frances Ray of Wayne, NJ, Arlene Johnson of LaGrange, TX, special friends; Sharon Griggs, Ida Dailey, Rhonda Jones, JoAnne Scott, Kathy Barber and Dorothy Martin, nine godchildren; Michael Jones, Eddie Porter, Shafon (Muka) Griggs-Bullard, Lisa Oliver, Jaquan Kenner, Zahire Kenner, Tahaad Snowden-
