Namon Nathaniel (Nate) Franklin was born on June 29, 1937, in Ozark, Alabama to the late Deacon Nathaniel and Deaconess Lizzie Flora Newman-Franklin. He is the fourth of nine children. At an early age, he joined the Old Salem Baptist Church (Longstreet Community) in Ozark, AL and remained a faithful member until he relocated to Newark, NJ in 1965.
On June 30, 1979, Nate joined Linda Sue Payne in holy matrimony. Linda came into this marriage with two children: Keisha and Eddie Carter. Nate came into this marriage with five children: Tami, Paula, Dwayne, Victor and Katrina. From their union, they were blessed with three daughters: Tiffany, Shantell, and LaToya.
Cars were his go to hobby and at an early age he was employed by M. Wells Tire Shop in Ozark, Al until he moved to New Jersey and was employed by yet another Tire shop in Dover, NJ. However, his career dream wasn’t fulfilled until he became employed by E. Franklin & Sons Auto Body where he worked until retirement.
Nate transitioned to his heavenly mansion on July 20, 2024, at Overlook Medical Center in Summit NJ. He will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of all those whose lives he touched while he journeyed here on Earth.
Nate leaves to cherish his memory eight children: Victor Franklin (Lori), Paula Franklin-Lewis, Katrina Baldwin (Lorenzo), Tiffany Franklin, Shantell Franklin, and LaToya Franklin, two step-children: Keisha Carter and Eddie Carter (Hassana), three sisters: Irene Pitts, Lorine Glanton (Bobby), and Margaret Franklin, two sisters-in-law: Jacqueline Wimbish(Lamont) and Mildred Franklin, one brother-in-law: William Payne, Jr., 20 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased in death by his loving wife: Linda Franklin, mother and father, Lizzie and Nathaniel Franklin, brothers: John, Enoch, and Elijah Franklin, sister: Maeomi Williams, son: Dwayne Franklin, and daughter: Tami Franklin.
