Deann H. Marchan

Heaven Sent: September 21, 1952

Heaven Bound: June 8, 2025

Deann Helina Marchan was born on September 21, 1952 to Hellie and Verita Agard in White City Forest Reserve, Trinidad, W.I. She was the fifth of ten children and the first girl. Her journey to the United States began in 1978 when she immigrated to pursue a better life.

In 1980, Deann married Charles Marchan, her devoted husband and life partner. Together, they built a home in Newark, New Jersey, where they raised their children— Deena, CJ, and bonus daughter Candy—instilling in them the same values of perseverance, compassion, and integrity that Deann lived by every day.

She spent over 20 years in the finance industry, beginning as a secretary and rising to the position of sales trader. Known for her sharp mind, strong work ethic, ability to build and maintain strong relationships, and unwavering determination, she earned the respect of her colleagues and clients alike. She loved the fast pace and energy of that job and it matched her spirit outside of the office. After retiring, she started one of her favorite positions as Glama. She spent hours on end, caring for, laughing with, chauffeuring, cooking, and taking care of her family. She was incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren, always offering congratulations or her signature high fives, and definitely adding a photograph of the moment to her digital frame.

She was a woman of grace and strength, with a heart that embraced everyone she met. Whether through her work, family gatherings or community, Deann made a lasting impression on all whose lives she touched.

Deann is lovingly remembered by her husband Charles; her children Candy, Deena, and CJ; siblings, Everard Agard, Errol (Soongie) Agard, Marilyn Agard-Toussaint, Gary Agard, Richard (Richie) Agard, Rosalind De La Rosa, and Anthony (Tony) Agard; grandchildren Samantha Marchan, Ryan Coker, Marcus Wilson, Caleb Marchan, Courtney Marchan, Elijah Wilson, daughter in law, Tanisha Marchan and sons in law, Rick Wilson, Carnel Hockett; and her forever friends Rosalind Gray and Beryl Dubisette who have been with her since she set foot on the US shore. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear family and friends who will forever remember her warmth, wisdom, humor, and generous spirit.

We take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved parents, and brothers David Agard and Edward (Eddie) Agard.

Deann Marchan, a cherished matriarch, a beacon of love and laughter, will be profoundly missed, but her legacy of love, devotion, courage, and resilience will continue to serve as a reminder to all who knew her of the beauty in kindness, the importance of conviction, and the strength of family.
