Beverly McDowell was born on January 27, 1951 in Atlanta, Georgia, daughter of Mary Curington McDowell and Buford McDowell. At a young age, Beverly’s family relocated to the Bronx, New York.

Beverly was joined in holy matrimony to Robert Patterson and this union was blessed with four daughters, Christine, Jennifer, Gloria and Ashley. They raised their family in the Bronx, New York.

She was a former member of Friendly Baptist Church in the Bronx, New York.

Beverly devoted her life to her family and was a proud homemaker. She had a kind and giving spirit and would help anyone in need. She enjoyed babysitting other children in the neighborhood and had quite a sense of humor.

Beverly enjoyed learning from the youth and often encouraged them to make a difference in the world. She enjoyed cooking and watching television shows that focused on the criminal justice system.

Beverly McDowell departed this life on July 9, 2026 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia at the age of 75. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Patterson; a daughter, Christine McDowell and her mother, Mary Claiborne.

She leaves to cherish fond memories, three daughters, Jennifer, Gloria and Ashley Patterson; four grandsons, Daniel Patterson, Tyrone McDowell-Henry, Jr., Tahquan McDowell and Jeremiah Patterson; her father, Buford McDowell; two sisters, Priscilla Claiborne and Yvonne Grace; two brothers, Steven McDowell and Jonathan Claiborne and a host of other relatives and friends.
