Christine E Bland

Christine Elizabeth Bland was born on January 18, 1953, in Brunswick County, Virginia, to the

late Norman and Rosa Bland. She peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, June 19,

2026, at JFK Hospital in Edison, New Jersey, at the age of seventy-three.

During the early years of her life, Christine moved to New Jersey, where she established deep

roots within her community. She was baptized at a young age by the late Reverend George Ray,

marking the beginning of a lifelong spiritual journey. Her commitment to her faith was evident

even as a child; she attended Sunday School regularly and lent her voice to the children's choir.

Christine's pursuit of knowledge led her to Essex County College and Rutgers University, and

she ultimately graduated from Berkeley Business College. This strong educational foundation

paved the way for a distinguished professional career. Following her graduation, she joined the

Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in Newark, NJ, where she dedicated over 40 years of service

before her retirement. Beyond her professional achievements, Christine was known for her

impeccable sense of style; she possessed great taste in fashion and remained consistently

informed about the latest trends.

Although she was remarkably soft-spoken, Christine's devotion to the Lord was profound and

unwavering. Having dedicated her life to Jesus Christ at a young age, she viewed every day as

an opportunity to offer praise. This faith remained her cornerstone even during times of personal

struggle; during her sickness, she selflessly prayed for the healing and well-being of others.

As a pillar of Union Baptist Church in Newark, NJ, Christine served with humility and dedication.

She was formally inducted as a Deaconess on March 30, 2014, and was a regular participant in

bible study. Her commitment to service extended to completing advanced classes at the New

Hope Missionary Baptist Association Leadership Training Institute. Furthermore, she contributed

her time to the Courtesy Floral Ministry and the Outreach Ministry under the leadership of

Reverend Lawrence Peterson. Driven by a desire to unite her kin, she established a prayer line

for her entire family, sending weekly prayers and scriptures that facilitated the reconnection of

relatives who had been estranged for years.

Christine's love for her family was boundless. She made every effort to attend family functions

and was always available to those in need, regardless of the distance. Her presence was

characterized by a warm smile and infectious laughter, reflecting the deep joy she found in her

loved ones. Known affectionately as "Chris" or "Bland," she will be remembered for the wisdom

she shared, the love she bestowed, and the enduring legacy she leaves within the hearts of

everyone she touched. Her absence leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew her.

Christine is preceded in death by her mother, Rosa M. Bland and her father, Norman R. Bland.

She leaves to cherish her memories and mourn her departure: her brother Russell (Barbara)

Bland of Elkton, MD; two nieces Mellissa Anastasia Bland (Stacy) and Melanie Cosima Bland

(Mel) of Elkton, MD; one great niece Sabria Bland of Elkton, MD, one great nephew Sean Scott

Bland of Baltimore, MD; one great great nephew Quadon Jaylen Russell Thompson of Elkton,

MD; aunts, uncles, her best friend Elaine Artis of Scotch Plains, NJ; a host of cousins and

friends.
