Neil Preston Miller, Jr.

Neil Preston Miller, Jr., was born on October 9, 1971 in Newark, New Jersey to loving parents, Judy D. and Neil Preston Miller, Sr.

Neil, Jr. at an early age with his family accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Israel Memorial African Methodist Church was his place of worship with his family. He will be remembered for his illuminating smile and extending kindness towards everyone he met. Neil’s “Love” of family and friends was immeasurable to say the least. His acts of generosity and selflessness in assisting those in need spoke volumes of Neil’s character.

Neil, was an avid reader, a Star-ledger began his day and he enjoyed lengthy discussions, many on his favorite topics; World History, Music (Club), Politics, Sports (“A True Raiders Fan!!”) and Italian Food. He was a great listener, shared information and provided trivia at the precise moment. He will be missed for his intellect and his calm nature.

On March 8, 2024, Neil, Jr., peacefully went home to be with the Lord. His earthly duties were done and his heavenly duties had begun.

Neil was educated in the Newark Public School System and graduated from Barringer High School (Newark, New Jersey). Continued his education, attended Essex County College, Business Administration and minored in World History.

Neil’s employ spans with Prudential Insurance Company, P.A.S.E Program, Supervisor, Summer Employment; Payless Shoes; Chuck E. Cheese; Newark Symphony Hall; United States Census; Rutgers, Supervisor of Security Police; Prepaid Legal; Ameri-Plan, Senior Sales Representative and various security companies.

Neil was a Civic Servant throughout his life, very active in the community, working alongside family to promote positive change and growth. He served as a District Leader (Essex County Democratic Committee Member, District #6) of the West Ward of Newark for 30 years.

Always wanted to help the people in the community to strive for a better quality of life.

Neil will be missed at the family events during the holidays, watching sports with his brother, Christopher, spending quality time with family. Weekly trip to Dunkin Donuts for a double shot of expresso, a regular coffee and a glaze donut. A Wednesday Special, ice cream sundae with hot caramel or chocolate from Guerriero Gelato and Cakes.

Neil was a Gem, took pride as a Caregiver, transacting business for his Mom and Aunt Michelle. The weekly task of shopping, going to the bank, post office run and other labors of love to ensure their needs were satisfied. Also, quality time spent with Auntie Jeanette, bringing her up to date on the NFL and NBA and the objective of the games. Neil would astonish her with his knowledge of the historical background of teams and players and of many other sports. A call to Auntie Annette to say “Hello,” she is on the go, wishing her safe travels to and from work, etc.

Neil will be remembered as the “Good Shepherd that watched over his Flock.” God loved him Best, gave Neil Sweet Rest.”
