Cassandra Elaine (Dozier) Henderson was born to the late Georgia Mae Epps and Lucious Dozier on November 27, 1947, in Newark, New Jersey. She transitioned peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Sandy or Sand, as she was known to close family and friends, was educated in the Newark Public School system having graduated from Central High School in 1965.
At a young age, Sandy accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized by the late Rev. George L. Ray at the Union Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, where she served faithfully and tirelessly until her transition. She served in many ministries including the Junior Usher Board; the Junior Choir, the Young Adult Choir, and the Senior Choir; the Missionary Board; and the Courtesy Club. She also served as a member and long-time treasurer of the Deaconess Ministry.
Sandy was married to the late Jerome Alan Gold in 1967. To this union was born her only child, Tracey Lynn Gold.
Later, in 2005, Sandy was joined in holy matrimony to Harvey Henderson. Harvey and Sandy, who met at Union Baptist Church, served as Deacon and Deaconess for many years.
Sandy was previously employed at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in East Orange, New Jersey. She later was employed by New Jersey Bell (Verizon) for decades until her retirement.
Sandy was a gifted seamstress and a great cook who loved to entertain her family and friends. She spent many hours beautifying the church sanctuary and dining hall with flowers, curtains, and other decorations.
Sandy was dedicated to her family who she loved dearly—and who love her just as much and more, forever and always.
She was preceded in death by her brother Curtis (Sonny) Epps.
Sandy leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Harvey; her daughter Tracey; her grandson Anthony Jerome Thomas; her sister Patricia Ann Dozier; her nieces Shana Dozier, Tricia Davis, Linda Davis and LaTanya Davis; her nephews Victor Johnson and Jose Fadell; her beloved cousins Sharon Dozier Shipman, Alice Dozier Corbin, and Alvin Dozier; and a host of extended family and friends.
