Fred Brown was born on June 28, 1951 in Darlington, SC to the late Naomi Brown Myers and the late Malachia Smoot. He departed this life on August 15, 2026 at Whitehouse Nursing Facility.
Fred was educated in the Newark public school system. He graduated from Lafayette Street Grammar School and attended East Side High School.
Fred began his working career early with Northern Feathers where he was a foreman. He later switched careers to work for Ford Motor Company where he worked for many years. He left to become a long-distance truck driver a career he really enjoyed. He loved driving cross country, it gave him a chance to enjoy life on the road and to see different sights.
Fred was blessed to have two children. A son Darren Lacewell (Blanchie Lacewell). A daughter Tangela Spivey (Barbara J. Spivey)
Fred was affectionately known as Dad, Freddie B and 40. He is remembered as a quiet and soft-spoken person, who enjoyed singing about the everyday things he saw while walking down the street. He loved the Giants and cherished watching his beloved team play. He would let you know not to disturb him while the team was playing. His biggest rivalry was with his daughter, the Cowboys fan, who would call every time his team lost to her Cowboys to ask: What happened?
Fred is preceded in death by his mother Naomi Brown Myers, step-father Richard Myers, his father Malachia Smoot, his grandparents Cleo and Romellow Richardson, sister Romellow Brown Lawson and granddaughter Alyssa Lacewell. He leaves to cherish his memory his son Darren Lacewell (Asmanda) of Riegelwood, NC, his daughter Tangela Spivey of Roselle, NJ, brother Raymond Brown of Newark, NJ, his sister RosieLee Brown of Newark, NJ, two nieces Brenda Shay Lawson of NY and Starnell Taylor of NC, a God-sister Pamela Ham of Florence, SC, seven grandchildren JaVaghna McKoy (Demetriss), Dre-Shawn Lacewell, Cray-Shawn Brice, Shonora Clark (Jay), Jerome Bowen (Kayla), Daquan Lacewell, and Corey Lacewell, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
