Conrad E. Freeman, a native of Newark, New Jersey, was the beloved son of the late George and Elsie Freeman. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Vivian A. Hart (Harold Hart, Sr.), Marcella Graham (Robert), Carol J. Ross (Joseph), Sandra A. Miller, Arnell L. Moss, and Vanessa Freeman; and his brother, Ronald Freeman.
Conrad lived a life rooted in faith, service, and compassion for others. He attended Newark Public Schools and later graduated from Clifford Scott High School in East Orange, New Jersey.
A proud patriot, Conrad honorably served in the United States Army after enlisting on June 17, 1968. During the Vietnam War, he served from 1969 to 1970 and faithfully completed his military service in the US Army Reserve in June 1974. In recognition of his dedication and sacrifice, he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Two distinct, highly recognizable awards earned by U.S. military personnel during the Vietnam War, and two Overseas Service Bars.
Conrad dedicated 39 years of service to the Newark Public School System, where he worked in the warehouse department before retiring. Beyond his professional career, he was deeply committed to helping others. Conrad became a respected and active member of the AA and NA fellowship communities throughout northern New Jersey. He was well known for encouraging and supporting individuals on their recovery journeys, consistently offering wisdom, hope, compassion, and unwavering encouragement to everyone he encountered.
Conrad was also a faithful servant of God, serving as a Deacon at Bethel New Life Community Outreach Church. Through his ministry, kindness, and steadfast faith, he touched countless lives and left a lasting impact on his church family and community.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved brother, Richard L. Freeman, and sister-in-law, Barbara Freeman, of Virginia, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great-great nieces, great nephews, great-great nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were blessed by his love, compassion, and service.
Conrad’s legacy of faith, service, recovery, and devotion to others will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
