Marcelina Angelina Hodgson

Marcelina Angelina Hodgson was born April 28, 1935, in Bluefields, Nicaragua to Marie Victoria De Lewis and Enrique Lewis. Marcelina departed this life on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Englewood Hospital.

Marcelina grew up in Bluefields, Nicaragua with her sister Christina Lewis. During that time, she had her firstborn son Oscar Enrique Hodgson in 1962. On January 2, 1970, Marcelina married Aster Hodgson and in 1971 they moved to New York City. She went on to have three more children, Gloria in 1973, Michelle in 1975 and Alfred in 1979.

Marcelina was self-employed doing domestic work in New York City. In November 1983, Aster & Marcelina moved to Paterson, New Jersey. She loved listening to her country music, cooking and entertaining family and friends. She cherished her friendship with her close and dear friend Florencia Gutierrez. She loved being entertained by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved sitting in the backyard with her nephews Dionicio, Ramon, Silverio and Pedro listening to ranchero. She told the truth as it is to her friends and family, and you can always hear her saying “Hey girly”.

Marcelina was introduced to Jehovah Witnesses by her Aunt Alva Bernard in Bluefields, Nicaragua in the 1960’s before moving to the United States. In New York City, she began studying the bible again with Sister Campbell and attending the Colonial Congregation Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses at 88 Bradhurst Avenue in Harlem, New York. Marcelina was baptized in the summer of 1979 at Orchard Beach in Bronx, New York. When moving to Paterson, New Jersey, she and her family began attending the Kingdom Hall on North 5th Street and then joined the North Paterson congregation on Trenton Avenue. When the new congregation Fairlawn was formed, and kingdom hall was built this became Marcelina new home congregation. Many memories were made street witnessing downtown Paterson with the sisters and brothers before going to work. Also going door to door service with Sister Eula Steven, Sister Carrie Clowney and Sister Ida McNair. She always encouraged ones to learn about Jehovah that entered her home. Later in her life, when her health was not well, she took opportunities to speak with those at the hospital and at rehabilitation centers to the very end serving Jehovah.

Marcelina leaves to cherish wonderful memories: her husband Aster Hodgson of 55 years, her children Gloria Peterkin (Keith), Michelle Hodgson and Alfred Hodgson (Deshana Johnson) all of Paterson. Her nine grandchildren, Regina Johnson of Paterson, Arnell Hodgson of New York, Marcus Johnson of Paterson, Oscar Brandon Bryant of New York and Maxine Hodgson of Bluefields, Nicaragua, Yamira Hodgson of Richmond, VA, Justin Hodgson of Burlington, NJ, Alan Peterkin of Paterson and Asmar Hodgson of Paterson. Her 11 great-grandchildren Aionna Johnson, Brandon Bryant, Khaidyn Perry, Nizaiah Hodgson, Arnella Hodgson, Noah Bryant, Wynter Bryant, Harlem Johnson, Oscar S. Hodgson, Georshelly Michelle Hodgson, Sheorleny Hodgson and host of nieces, nephews and cousins and close friends and other relatives. Predeceased in death by her son Oscar Hodgson and her sister Christina Lewis.                                         Let us remember one of her favorite scriptures “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

The family of Marcelina Angelina Hodgson wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern, cards, visits, phone calls, texts, emotional support and memories of our dear loved one. We also appreciate those who travel small and great distances to encourage us at this time. May Jehovah bless and keep you in his loving care.
